Chapter 1
by Praise Malinga
The reason of dreams from God is:
1. To seal instruction.
Many people are forever busy and even when they are not busy they cannot be still. The world we live in today is a world of constant noise and distractions. We're constantly bombarded, distracted, and disconnected from the things that truly matter. But God, in His infinite wisdom, knows that we need guidance, direction, and instruction. That's why He gives us dreams.
Dreams are a means by which God communicates with us, revealing His plans, purposes, and desires for our lives.
As it is written in Job 33:14-18:
"For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men,
In slumberings upon the bed;
Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword."
In this passage, we see that God uses dreams to seal instruction, to guide us, and to keep us from harm. He's a loving Father who wants to protect us, direct us, and lead us into the path of righteousness.
2. To encourage.
The story of Gideon in the bible is a good example: "And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.
But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host:
And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host. note
And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.
And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.
And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.
And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian" (Judges 7:9-15)
When we're feeling discouraged, defeated, or uncertain, God uses dreams to lift us up, to motivate us, and to give us hope. Gideon, a mighty warrior, was encouraged by a dream that God gave him, and he went on to defeat the Midianites.
3. To inform.
God uses dreams to reveal things that are hidden, to give us insight, and to provide us with understanding. He wants us to know His plans, His purposes, and His desires for our lives.
But how do we know if a dream is from God?
It must do the following to us:
2. Make you introspect yourself - A dream from God will always make us examine our hearts, our motives, and our actions.
3. Brings unity - It unites though it doesn't tolerate sin.
4. Encourage you to do something inline with God's word - A dream from God will always be in line with His word, and it will encourage us to do what is good to God and people.
Though this chapter is titled dreams from God, but is dreams inspired by God.
Psalm 119:105 says, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
Let's seek to understand God's word.
