Chapter 7

by Praise Malinga

The grace of God is a fundamental aspect of our Christian walk, and it plays a crucial role in our pursuit of holiness. As it is written, For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, (Titus 2:11, KJV).

Grace is the unmerited favor of God, and it empowers us to walk in holiness. As it is written, For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (Ephesians 2:8, KJV). This means that God's grace enables us to live a life that is pleasing to Him, and it provides us with the strength and motivation to pursue holiness.

Mercy, on the other hand, is the compassion and pity of God, which withholds punishment from us. As it is written, It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. (Lamentations 3:22, KJV). This means that God's mercy spares us from the consequences of our sins, and it gives us a second chance to repent and turn to Him.

While grace and mercy are related, they are distinct concepts. Grace is God's enabling power that helps us to live a life that is pleasing to Him, while mercy is God's compassion that withholds punishment from us. As it is written, For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. (James 2:13, NKJV).

It's essential to remember that God's grace and mercy are obtained while we are still on earth. Forgiveness is only given while we are on earth, and once we pass away, it's too late to receive it. As it is written, Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. (2 Corinthians 6:2, KJV). This means that we must take advantage of God's grace and mercy today, and not put off our salvation until tomorrow.

Other scriptures that teach us about the grace and mercy of God include:

  • But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, (Ephesians 2:4, KJV)
  • And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. (John 1:16, KJV)
  • Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16, KJV)

Let us walk in the grace and mercy of God, and pursue holiness, that we may glorify Him in all that we do.

Righteousness Unto Holiness

Romans 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
